Move over 'Toy Story 3': Guinness says 'Frozen' makes history
MANILA, Philippines — Disney/Pixar's 2013 feature "Frozen" is now the highest grossing animated film.
This was declared by the Guinness World Records on Friday (Manila time), when the big screen adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson fairytale "The Snow Queen" hit $1,072,391,611 in earnings globally.
"Guinness World Records can today confirm that Disney’s Frozen has edged past Toy Story 3 to become the highest box office film gross for an animation," Guinness said in a statement.
"Toy Story 3," also by Disney/Pixar, previously set the record with $1.063 billion in 2010.
"Frozen," a musical following a story of a princess who sets off to find her estranged sister, reached its record-setting total last weekend following its opening in Japan, Guinness said.
Its momentous earnings also placed it in box office history's biggest grossing films at 10th place.
The Academy Awards also honored "Frozen" for best animated feature and best original song for "Let It Go." - Camille Diola
