Motoring

A week of motoring

Ulysses Ang - The Philippine Star

With the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) having ended the other week, it’s assumed that the motoring industry would take a short respite before shifting to higher gear with more summer-related activities. That isn’t the case this year with one motoring event happening almost everyday.

Consider that it’s the effect of a growing and robust industry, but it also means it’s hard to keep tabs on what’s going on. In the interest of keeping you in touch, here’s a rundown of the motoring events that happened the other week.

Nissan GT Academy

Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI) confirmed its participation in the upcoming Nissan GT Academy 2016, which will be launched later this year. This was announced during an exclusive screening of the Nissan GT Academy reality show.

A virtual-to-reality racing competition, the Nissan GT Academy gives aspiring race car driver a chance to fulfill their dreams of participating in a professional international race.

“The Nissan GT Academy is Nissan’s way of democratizing motorsports, to make it more accessible to the general public,” said SJ Huh, NPI General Manager for Marketing. “By doing this, we help fast-track the dreams of more potential Filipino racers to reach the international racing arena.”

In the first season of the Nissan GT Academy Asia, Joward Policarpio emerged as the champion beating other racers from Japan, Thailand, India, and Indonesia.

Isuzu Truck Fest

Continuing to bolster its position in the domestic market as the leading assembler and seller of commercial vehicles and trucks, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) has put on display the products that define the Isuzu brand’s key strength.

At the 2016 Truck Fest held at the SMX Convention Center, the C-Series and E-Series took the spotlight. The CYH51S (GVW 41 tons), a 20-cubic-meter dump truck and the CYZ51M (GVW 31 tons), a 15-cubic-meter version were on display. Another CYZ51M, equipped with a control lever and designed as a concrete mixer completed the full C-Series range.

The heaviest sized E-Series models were presented by two examples:  the EXR51F (GCM 45 tons), and an EXZ51K (GCM 60 tons). Displayed as tractor heads, the trucks are readily configurable to serve a variety of purposes. For their part, the EXR51F flatbed and the two EXZ51K fuel tankers can immediately be deployed for their respective duties.

Along with the heavy-duty models, Isuzu also showcased the country’s best-selling light-duty truck, the N-Series. The medium F-Series FRR was also on display.

Adding even more diversity to the show were two special vehicle bodies imported from Thailand, one of which is mounted on an FVM truck. The other body has an interior where the temperature can be controlled.
