Audi A3 Sedan earns Top Safety Pick+ from US safety agency

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - America’s Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recently rated the Audi A3 Sedan Top Safety Pick+. The new model is thus also one of the safest automobiles on the market in the U.S.A.

The IIHS awarded the Audi A3 Sedan the top score of “Good” in all crash disciplines rated. The rating is based on a frontal collision with 40 percent overlap (moderate overlap), a frontal collision with 25 percent overlap (small overlap), a side impact, roof strength and a rear impact.

“The Top Safety Pick+ award for the A3 Sedan impressively illustrates the importance Audi attaches to the issue of safety,” said Joachim Scheef, Head of Vehicle Safety Development at AUDI AG.

Audi also places great importance on active safety. The IIHS awarded the A3 Sedan an “Advanced” rating for Audi’s Pre-Sense Front technology. The system informs the driver when the distance to the vehicle ahead becomes too small. In critical situations, the electronic assistant warns the driver and initiates automatic emergency braking, if necessary. That reduces the speed at impact or, in the best case, helps to prevent an accident entirely.

If the collision is inevitable, the Brake Assist feature uses controlled braking maneuvers during the accident to prevent secondary collisions. This can help to prevent the car from skidding and thus additional collisions. A3 Sedan sales begin this month on the U.S. market and within the next few months in the Philippines.
