The Filipino way to book 'em

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton -

A barrio fiesta garden party was recently held to launch the book of Marilen Nolasco Espiritu’s Wrap Them, Store Them, Peddle Them: The Filipino Way at the Espiritus’ sprawling Ayala Alabang residence. Being her first book project, it is her personal account of a quest that focuses on the indigenous Filipino way of wrapping, storing and peddling of food. It tackles the preparation of delicacies we all grew up with — pastillas de leche, sund’ot kulangot, pakaskas, pakasiat and kesong puti. The book contains brilliant photographs by her son Johann Espiritu and published by ArtPostAsia. Congratulations!

Of good music, great company

The Filipino virtuoso pianist Albert Tiu was recently brought in by Singapore Airlines and the Metro Manila Community Orchestra Foundation (MMCO) for a special performance at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. In wanting to continue her vision of exposing the members of the Friends for Cultural Concerns of the Philippines (FCCP) to culture and the arts, director Minerva Tanseco took the privilege of treating the members to the concert followed by an after-concert feast at the Peninsula Manila along with patroness of the arts Imelda Marcos.

A venue for art’s sake

Truly living up to its name as the hottest haunt for great food, artists and art lovers is Artina Gallery Cafe located at A. Venue entertainment mall and hall along Makati Avenue. Shown in photo at the artsy and classy gallery cafe owned by David Peckson (4th from left), who recently sponsored an art exhibit dubbed “Homage to Goya: Claroscuro” are visual artists Javier Laporta, Steph Palallos, Poch Naval, Ramon Diaz, Nino Quartana, artist and Artina co-owner Marilen Peckson, A. Venue project director Nancy Coo and Cesar Caballero. A. Venue is located at 7829 Makati Avenue, Makati City. For inquiries, call 729-0099.
