Mikel Sala & Nicole Coromina: Love in the time of email

Just married: Newlyweds Mikel Sala and Nicole Sala with parents Manuel Caromina and Lilia Coromina and Jose Sala and Susan Sala

Mikel Sala, son of Jose Sala and Susan Montenegro-Sala, and Nicole Coromina, daughter of Manuel Caromina and Lilia Suarez-Coromina, have proven that long-distance relationships can work. Since meeting in Manila seven years ago, the couple spent most of their relationship thousands of miles apart but kept in touch through regular emails and phone calls.

After being engaged for a year, their wedding took place at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral and was officiated by Fr. Ernesto Javier.

Nicole arrived right on time looking radiant in a gown by Rosa Clara. She walked down the aisle to meet her groom, dapper in a Philip Rodriguez embroidered barong Tagalog.

The wedding entourage was a mix of Manila and Cebu personages. Principal sponsors included the groom’s uncle, John Montenegro, his godfather, Antonio Lozada and friends of the bride’s family, Genaro Reyes and Oscar Rodriguez. The madrinas were Maria Cruz CorominaGuadalupe Coromina Garcia and Maria Suarez. Mikel’s aunt Ulla Marianne Sala and mutual friend Maria Regina Aboitiz joined them.

The matron of honor was Nicole’s sister, Catalina Coromina Varona, while best men were Mikel’s brother Javi Sala and childhood friend Robin Sarmiento.

The reception at the Casino Español de Cebu included cocktails and canapés topped with a wide selection of cheeses, caviar, jamon Serrano and other savory food.

Setting the romantic note were lush greens, white flower centerpieces and bronze candelabras by florist Pinky Chang of Pink Flora.

The program included a few speeches from loved ones who regaled guests with stories about the couple’s down-to- earth personalities.

Everyone agreed that Casino Español produced a superb spread of Spanish dishes and spared nothing in delivering a memorable gastronomic experience.

Everyone partied till the wee hours, capped by a performance from the On the Cover Band.
