Rotary Club of Cebu inducts new officers

The Rotary Club of Cebu, chartered in 1932 and a consistent recipient of several service awards, recently celebrated its 84th induction ceremony held at the Arctic Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu Hotel. This year’s  Rotary theme is “ Serving Humanity.”

Inducted into office were  president William  Chavez, vice president Aris Kintanar, secretary  Stephen Chian, treasurer Hector Almario and assistant treasurer Larry Stonebraker. New directors are Melchor Alejandro, Mitch Alforque, Shigejiro Onda, Edward Tan Ting, Michael Torres and Jacob Ong. Bing Martinez is president–elect.

Past president Bernard Vonn Sia thanked the members who unconditionally supported the many laudable projects the club embarked .

 

 

 

 

Keynote speaker Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara expressed his gratitude to the Rotarians who not only come together to talk, laugh and share ideas,  but  for  their  relentless  goal of  service to humanity.

President William Chavez  in his acceptance speech pledged to “raise awareness to the causes and dynamics of the many difficulties that threaten humanity, to alert relevant actors where there is a risk of people being thrown in the deep mud of inhumanity and to advocate and mobilize for appropriate action.”

Presidential awards for 2015-2016 were given to members in recognition and appreciation of services to the association. Among the recipients were  Ibarra Panopio for his dedication and service to the district as district rotary foundation chair and as adviser to the board of directors RY 15-16;Tae Yun Kim for his invaluable support to the members during the Rotary International Convention  2016, and  Pericles Dakay for his assistance to the School Chairs Program.

Joining the roster were  Stephen Castillo, for his contribution to the Dengue Eradication Program, Water Filtration and Gift of Life program that addresses the medical needs of children who suffer from congenital heart defects and other similar conditions;  Rene Kintanar, for his dedicated service to the Community Scouts Youth and Guidance Center; Angel Ruben Martinez, for his commitment in the realization of the BATS (Books Across the Sea) Project and Edward Gaisano for his assistance during the relief efforts for the Guizo fire victims.
