Chong Hua Hospital Mandaue and Cancer Center in Cebu
A hospital that stands out in Cebu as an outstanding private institution is Chong Hua Hospital, which was founded in 1909 by the Asociacion Benevola de Cebu.
Through the efforts of Tan Unchuan and Yap Anton, they acquired a 40,000-sqm. lot in Martires Street, which became the place where the Chinese received their treatment. Several years later, through its president Jose Yap, another lot was purchased at Don Mariano Cui and construction of a five-story building began.
With the growing population and the need to complete the range of services of the hospital to include a specialized center for cancer therapy, specifically on radiotherapy, the Asociacion Benevola de Cebu once again acquired another property and soon rose the Chong Hua Hospital Mandaue and Cancer Center.
The 350-bed modern hospital was formally opened with a Mass celebrated by Archibishop Jose Palma. The ceremonial ribbon cutting was led by CHH president and CEO Lim Liu; chairman, Asociacion Benevola de Cebu Victoriano Go; trustee Benito Gaisano; hospital administrator Dean Decal; Representative-elect of Cebu’s Sixth District Jonas Cortes; and former Cebu Mayor Michael Rama.
The Chong Hua Cancer Institute offers adult and pediatric hematology while the Cancer Survivor Care Service encompasses Nutrition, Co-Morbidity, Pain Managemet, Palliative Care Service and Psychosocial Care.
