Days of wander, days of speed

Igan D’Bayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - There is more to this man than being a consultant in a Makati firm.

Dundee Adriatico is a dude who’s into wall-climbing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, surfing, and wakeboarding, among other sports. Adventure may be his first love, but safety is one of his top priorities. It isn’t just about avoiding danger, but also being able to continue to do the things he loves. He shares, “As most of us who do jiu-jitsu would say, ‘Tap to fight another day.’”

Dundee’s passion for riding motorcycles started in high school: riding a bike through rocky roads and winding river of his province made him realize how traversing less-travelled roads can lead to discovering new places and experiences. Yes, there’s something Zen-like about the entire enterprise. And the journey has led him to victory.

Dundee was recently awarded this year’s Wrangler True Wanderer at the Brewery at The Palace, Uptown BGC. He received a Royal Enfield Classic Chrome Black 500 cc and P100,000 worth of Wrangler merchandise.

With its “#TrueWanderer” campaign, the iconic American denim brand aims to celebrate brave Filipino souls with a heart for adventure. This year’s competition was supported by the Department of Tourism (DOT). And after a deluge of entries (1,242 in total), 10 finalists were able to mount epic ride-outs in Cebu, Bohol and Palawan.

Dundee planned out his #TrueWanderer adventure to Palawan really well.

The first day spent in Puerto Princesa was dedicated to trying out local delicacies: from the exotic crocodile sisig, to the unusual woodworms known locally as tamilok, and delicious chicken inasal. The next few days were all about the journey and soaking in the sights. He was able to try the famous nido soup in El Nido, discover the long stretch of beach in San Vicente, see wildlife in Sabang, and take in the awe-inspiring view from Honda Bay. Adding to his experience, he also met interesting locals with different personalities and fellow wanderers along the way.

He explains, “Somehow you’re traveling because you want others to experience what you’ve experience, and for them to see what you see. Being a True Wanderer is about being a storyteller. Just by thinking of that, you’ll be able to capture the essence of being a True Wanderer.”

According to Wrangler Philippines president Daisy Go, “Wrangler, as a brand, has always been about going off-the-beaten paths and conquering new grounds. In as much as we continue to bring new denim innovations hinged on Wrangler’s rich American denim heritage we also look for ways to empower individuals to explore, discover and gain experiences they’ve not had before. That’s why we thought that Wrangler #TrueWanderer was a great initiative, and a good fit for what the brand stands for.”

And for Dundee, the best thing about winning is that it will allow him to go on even more adventures. To ride a bike, take on the road and write more stories.
