Citizen brings Eco-Drive technology to Cebu

- Honey Jarque Loop - The Philippine Star

Citizen, the leader in watch-making innovations, made its presence as a pioneering watch brand in the Philippines in 1967.  Half a century later it opened its first mono store in Manila. It further expanded  its reach when it opened its first brand store in Cebu at the North Wing of SM City.

The launch of the concept store was marked by a “Powered By Light” ceremony using laser light. Present to celebrate this milestone was Naoto Hosogaya, managing director of Citizen watches H.K. Limited along with Wizer Industries president Ray Jacinto, exclusive distributor of Citizen in the Philippines, Citizen Watches H.K. Limited sales executive Wendy Tam, Wizer Industries brand manager Joy Jalandoni, and TV personality and Citizen Philippines brand ambassador Daniel Matsunaga. The event was hosted by Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry.

Since establishing its mark in 1918 as one of the frontrunners in the watch industry, Citizen has been widely recognized for forging  the world’s firsts in timepiece technology such as radio-controlled and satellite-synchronized timekeeping, a watch with voice recognition, and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic deep sensor. Pushing further, the brand introduced its latest innovation: the Eco-Drive technology.

The Eco-Drive technology began from a simple yet revolutionary idea — a watch that never needs a battery. This technology converts any light source into energy and stores the energy in a rechargeable lithium ion power cell, which keeps the watches running for six months or more on full charge. Battery changes are a thing of the past as the watches charge in both types of light — natural and artificial — including sunlight, fluorescent bulbs and ordinary bulbs. When left in the dark, some Eco-Drive watches enter into power-save mode where the hands and its other features stop. Upon exposure back to light, it automatically recharges and functions back to the correct time and date.

The Citizen Eco-Drive collection includes an eco-friendly feature, allowing it to exist in harmony with nature. The watches are completely free of harmful metals and materials just as nature intended.

Guests got a closer look at the featured timepieces as Cebu models donning Eco-Drive watches glided through the runway to highlight the brand’s prized collection: Citizen Altichron Cirrus, Citizen Promaster Aqualand, Citizen Satellite Wave F900 and Citizen L for Ladies.
