MANILA, Philippines - The body of an eight-year-old boy, who reportedly drowned Wednesday morning, was finally fished out from the waters of Manila Bay yesterday.
Carlito Villarde, a grade one pupil of Herminigildo Atienza Elementary School in Tondo, was identified by his parents. The boy’s face sustained abrasions and contusions, according to SPO2 Paul Dennis Javier.
Investigation showed the victim went swimming with two other children Wednesday morning.
On their way home, Villarde reportedly slipped on some boulders, hit his head and fell unconscious into the water. His two companions reportedly tried to save the victim but his body floated to a deep part of the bay.
The children failed to report the accident to their elders out of fear, Javier said. It was only yesterday morning, during the low tide, that the victim’s body surfaced.
Javier said he is still awaiting the result of the autopsy to determine the real cause of Villarde’s death. – Nestor Etolle
