Japanese found hanging in hotel room

MANILA, Philippines — A 34-year-old Japanese man was found dead in his room at a hotel in Manila Friday afternoon.

Chiba Soichi was found hanging by a green plastic cord in the bathroom at around 12:10 p.m., hours after a housekeeper knocked on the door to inform him it was time to check out of the Manila Manor Hotel in Malate, said Senior Police Officer 3 Jonathan Bautista, homicide investigator. 

The victim arrived in Manila on Nov. 2 and was scheduled to return to Japan after two days. He extended his stay for another 13 days for unknown reasons, police said.

There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle in the room. Two bottles of beer were found on the table.

The Manila Police District has coordinated with the Japanese embassy.
