Teen stabbed dead by ‘solvent junkie’

MANILA, Philippines — A 17-year-old pedicab driver was stabbed dead while he was sleeping by a man who was reportedly high on “solvent,” in Tondo, Manila before dawn Friday.

Reden Salac Roxas died at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center while being treated for a stab wound in the abdomen.

Roxas was sleeping on a bench in front of a cafeteria along J. Luna street at around 3 a.m. when Junjun Tulawan, 22, attacked him, the victim’s mother, Charito, told police.

Tulawan tried to flee but residents who witnessed the attack caught him. He is currently detained at the Manila Police District homicide section.

Among the solvents commonly abused in the country is model airplane glue.
