4 undergo polygraph test for Pasig rape-slay

Mabel Cama

MANILA, Philippines — Four “persons of interest” in the rape and murder of bank employee Mabel Cama were brought to Camp Crame yesterday for a polygraph examination.

The four men have given their respective statements before Senior Inspector Roberto Garcia, Pasig police investigation chief, and these will be used as the basis for the polygraph examination, Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, Eastern Police District director, said.

The four will also be tested for illegal drugs as soon as they have given their consent, Sapitula added.

He said they are still waiting for the results of the polygraph tests.

Cama died from head injuries caused by a blunt instrument, Sapitula said.

Crime scene investigators, however, could not determine whether Cama, 22, was raped because her genitals were burned, he added.

Sapitula expressed confidence they could give justice to the family of Cama, an employee of the Malayan Bank in Makati City.

Earlier, Mayor Lourdes Villamonte, of Paracale, Camarines Norte, offered a P50,000 reward for information leading to the solution of the case.

Villamonte, who owns Mega Bus Line, also ordered her employees to make themselves available to the police.

Cama’s body was found in an abandoned office at the former impounding area of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority last Sunday.

The building is around 100 meters away from the Mega Bus Line’s compound, where Cama and some family members lived and where her father has been employed as an electrician for the past decade.
