Ex-BOC officer gets 5 years over SALN violations

Michael Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A former officer of the Bureau of Customs was sentenced to five years in prison for lying in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).

A Manila metropolitan trial court found former operations officer Walter Reynoso Sr. guilty of 15 counts of perjury and meted him four months’ imprisonment for each count.

The cases stem from his failure to include a house and lot in his SALNs from 1998 to 2004.

Reynoso Sr. also failed to declare he owns a Taurus pistol in 2010 and 2012, a Colt pistol in 2012, the acquisition of his real properties in 2005 and the purchase of a Toyota Revo VX 200 in 2007 to 2010 and 2012.

Reynoso pleaded guilty during his arraignment.
