132 held in Caloocan for being drunk, shirtless
MANILA, Philippines — At least 132 persons, including minors, were rounded up in Caloocan as part of the police’s bid to instill discipline.
Caloocan police chief Senior Superintendent Jemar Modequillo led the simultaneous police operations that began at 10 p.m. on Thursday in Barangays 165 to 188 in North Caloocan.
Modequillo told reporters that the Caloocan police would focus on Oplan Rody (Rid the Streets of Drunkards and Youth) after the Philippine National Police would no longer lead the government’s war on illegal drugs.
At least 19 persons were rounded up for being shirtless in public, 83 more for drinking in public and 30 minors for violating curfew.
Modequillo said the violators did push-ups as a discciplinary measure so they would not repeat their violations of city ordinances against drinking and being shirtless in public places.
The minors were turned over to the city government’s social welfare and development office.
