Chinese trader slain in Malabon

MANILA, Philippines — A 78-year-old Chinese businessman was gunned down in a passenger jeepney in Malabon City yesterday morning.

Esen Chuanico, a resident of Maryland street in Cubao, Quezon City, was on his way to his bottle cleaning station in Barangay Catmon when two men on a motorcycle, who had been following the jeepney, shot him repeatedly along G. Pascual street in Barangay Potrero just before 8 a.m.

Chuanico would usually commute to and from his shop because of his age, said Senior Police Officer 4 Dennis Javier, Malabon investigation chief.

He said he is coordinating with the Manila Police District on an old homicide case that could be related to Chuanico’s killing.
