Fireman hurt in Paco blaze
MANILA, Philippines — A firefighter was injured during a blaze that razed a four-story building housing a supermarket in Paco, Manila yesterday morning.
Fire Officer 3 Marlon Podolig suffered first-degree burns below his nose as he worked to put out the fire that hit the Cligan Mart building, across the street from Paco Market.
The supermarket’s 30 stay-in workers were safely evacuated.
Probers said the fire started in the building’s stockroom at around 5:39 a.m. and reached third alarm by around 5:44 a.m. They have yet to determine the amount of damage caused by the fire.
The command center of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said it took firefighters four hours to put the blaze under control. – Jose Rodel Clapano, Rey Galupo
