Pasay condo probed for security lapses

MANILA, Philippines - Police created a special task group to investigate the stabbing incident at the Central Park condominium in Pasay City on Tuesday night that claimed the lives of six persons, including the suspect. 

Senior Superintendent Dionisio Bartolome Jr., acting city police chief, formed a Station Special Investigation Team (SSIT) to look into the possible security lapses of the condominium management.

The SSIT is composed of Bartolome, team head; Superintendent Deanry Francisco; Superintendent Almel Mangandog, legal officer, and Senior Inspector Allan Abaquita,  team leader. 

It will be supported by 10 personnel of the Southern Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and crime laboratory, business permit and licensing office as well as engineering office of Pasay.

Six persons died in the stabbing incident after Alberto Garan, 39, went berserk following an alleged quarrel with his girlfriend, Emelyn Sagun.

Among those who were killed by Garan were Joel Palacios, 70, a retired journalist and former vice president of the Social Security System; Daisery Castillo, 12; Ligaya Dimapilis, 36; and Letecia Ecsiagan, 60. 

Palacios’ partner, Belcris Elorde, 24; April Joy Sagarino, 20; Arlyn Dian Cordero, 20, and Margie Morales, 26, were injured in the attack.
