LRT-2 back in service after weekend fire
MANILA, Philippines - The Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) resumed its full line operation yesterday morning, a few days after a fire broke out at the Pureza station Saturday night, an official said yesterday.
In a statement, LRTA administrator Reynaldo Berroya said trains started running from Santolan in Quezon City to Recto in Manila at around 4:30 a.m.
The LRT-2 limited trips to and from its Santolan and Cubao stations “due to damaged power cables and telecommunication and signaling wires.”
Berroya said the fire started just before 10 p.m. on Saturday after a junction box was hit by lightning during a heavy downpour.
“The engineering and maintenance personnel were immediately dispatched to the affected area… However, the repair of the system lasted more than 24 hours due to the complexity of the technical fault,” he said.
