MANILA, Philippines - Three persons were arrested in separate stings over the weekend after a grade school student, caught with 22 sachets of marijuana in his bag, identified them as his suppliers.

The 16-year-old boy, a sixth grader at San Antonio Elementary School, was turned over to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) after his teacher found the sachets of marijuana in his bag after their examinations last Friday.

The teacher told police he became suspicious when he saw the student holding a lighter.

The student, according to investigators, sold each sachet of marijuana – which contains enough dried leaves for one cigarette – to his classmates for P100 and that he “jammed” with them, said Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, QCPD director.

The student identified Ralph Norman Peñaflor, 25; John Ross Ong, 18; and Eunice Zhiska Zeta, 27, as the ones who allegedly supplied him with marijuana, Eleazar said.

Peñaflor and Ong were arrested with three sachets of marijuana in the first sting in Barangay San Antonio at around 4:30 a.m., a few hours after the student named them.

They in turn led police to Zeta, who was arrested with 250 grams of marijuana, with a street value of P6,500, in Barangay Salvacion.

Fake PDEA agent nabbed

On the other hand, a woman who posed as an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was arrested after she tried to extort money from a barangay official in Las Piñas City on Sunday.

Police officers apprehended Shiela Serrano, 30, near her house in Sitio Manukan, Barangay Manuyo Dos after she received marked money from the barangay official she targeted.

Serrano reportedly introduced herself as a PDEA agent and told the official that he has been tagged as a high-value drug target in Las Piñas.

She then told the official that his name would be dropped from the drug watchlist if he paid P300,000.

Police seized the marked money and a 9mm pistol from Serrano, who is facing charges of robbery extortion and illegal possession of firearms.

2 dead in drug attacks

Meanwhile, two drug suspects were killed in separate attacks in Malabon and Manila Sunday night.

May Velasquez, 39, was resting on a motorcycle parked near the corner of Dagupan and Raxabago streets in Tondo, Manila when an assailant shot her repeatedly at around 10 p.m.

A relative said Velasquez was arrested for drugs in Balic-Balic, Sampaloc.

Danilo Lorenzo Jr. was shot in the head while playing in a computer shop in Barangay Niugan, Malabon at around 11:30 p.m.

Lorenzo was included in the barangay drug watchlist and surrendered during Oplan Tokhang last year, said Senior Police Officer 4 Paul Dennis Javier. – With Perseus Echeminada, Rey Galupo
