Workers to get holiday pay today

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Workers who will report for work today are entitled to receive additional pay, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday.

According to DOLE, the law provides that an employee who will report for work during a non-working holiday will be paid an additional 30 percent of his daily rate for the first eight hours of service rendered.

An additional overtime pay of 30 percent will be given for work in excess of eight hours.

Employees who are scheduled to have their dayoff but are required to work will receive additional 50 percent on top of their regular daily pay.

The “no work, no pay” policy will be applied for those who choose to enjoy the holiday, the DOLE said.

Malacañang has declared Aug. 21 as a non-working holiday to commemorate the death of former senator Benigno Aquino Jr.
