Student hit by PNR train
MANILA, Philippines - A Grade 10 student who was wearing a headset as he was crossing the railroad tracks was killed when he was hit by a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train in Manila yesterday afternoon.
Joseph Monar, a student of San Antonio National High School in Makati City, might not have noticed an approaching northbound train as he was looking at another train approaching from the opposite direction, PNR operations chief Joseline Geronimo said in a radio interview yesterday.
People were shouting warnings at Monar but he failed to notice as he was wearing a headset, she added.
Monar lived on Espiritu street, near the PNR’s Vito Cruz station, Geronimo said. The PNR would extend financial assistance to Monar’s family, she added.
