Adamson: Senator’s kin not beaten up on campus

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Adamson University has denied that a relative of Sen. Francis Pangilinan was beaten up by alleged members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity on campus earlier this month.

In a statement posted on its website, the university said no fraternity-related incident was observed in the campus on Aug. 7, contrary to claims made by the family of Robert Pangilinan.

“The University denies that the alleged beating of Robert Pangilinan occurred at Adamson campus as earlier reported in the broadsheets,” the statement read.

Robert is a grandson of the senator through a half-cousin. His family earlier sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the supposed beating and bullying of the student on campus.

Sought for reaction on Adamson’s denial, Robert’s father Robbie said they would let the NBI look into the matter.

The family said they intend to pursue the case of physical injuries and grave threats against the members of the fraternity.

In its statement, Adamson said an internal investigation is being jointly conducted by the Office for Student Affairs and the Office for Campus Security and Safety regarding the incident.

The university did not address the Pangilinan family’s earlier claim that Adamson officials have not communicated with them when they tried to raise the matter.

The Tau Gamma Phi fraternity has yet to address the issue.
