5 hurt as cement mixer crushes car
MANILA, Philippines - Five persons were injured after a 16-wheeler cement mixer truck turned on its side and fell on a car in Quezon City yesterday afternoon.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority spokesperson Celine Pialago identified the injured as Marife Ramos, 34; Eulariza Ramos, 12; Eugene Maros Ramos, 8; and Eurio Ramos, 4, all passengers of a white Honda Brio.
Rescuers extricated the driver, Ulysses Ramos, who was unconscious when he was brought to a hospital.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, Quezon City Police District director, said the accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. along the southbound lane of Mindanao Avenue, in front of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Barangay Bahay Toro.
The truck suddenly careened out of control, hitting the car and veering towards the center island. The truck turned on its right side and fell on the car.
The truck driver, whom authorities have yet to identify, is now under police custody.
