DOTr sets Skyway-NAIAX toll system

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - There would be a one-stop toll collection system for the Skyway-Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAX) section by next month, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade said yesterday.

The plan to have the one-stop collection system for the Skyway and the NAIAX was discussed during a meeting between Tugade and San Miguel Corp. (SMC) president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang on Wednesday.

During the meeting, SMC also agreed to waive the P20 fee for the new section of the Skyway which connects to the NAIAX for one month as part of the ongoing study to integrate collection of toll of both expressways. The Skyway and NAIAX are both under SMC Infrastructure’s portfolio.

By waiving the collection of the P20 toll, there would be less burden on motorists who have been paying P20 for using the Skyway and P35 when exiting to the NAIA-X ramp.

SMC’s Vertex Tollways Development Inc., which won the contract for NAIAX, is collecting the P35 fee to recover the cost of putting up the ramps to connect the expressway with the Skyway.

The DOTr has ordered SMC to combine the fees for using the Skyway and NAIAX to prevent double collection.
