Another MPD detainee dies of heat stroke

MANILA, Philippines - A day after two detainees of the Manila Police District (MPD) died of heat stroke, another inmate passed away Monday night. 

June Agdeppa, 45, who was being held at the MPD’s drug enforcement unit (DEU) jail, died while being treated at the Ospital ng Maynila at around 11 p.m.

Agdeppa, a car painter, was waiting for a commitment order from the judge handling his case.

Senior Inspector Salvador Tangdol, DEU chief, said the unit’s detention facility, which is occupied by 86 inmates, can only house 28 persons.

Tangdol said it takes time for judges to release a commitment order that allows the DEU to transfer the inmates to the Manila City Jail.
