MANILA, Philippines - A 54-year-old woman linked to a car rental scam was arrested at a casino in Ermita, Manila on Saturday night.

Police identified the suspect as Ma. Socorro Garcia McShane, of Roxas street, 9th Avenue in Caloocan City.

Senior Inspector Fernildo de Castro, head of the Manila Police District anti-car theft section, said McShane’s scheme was to rent cars to use for ride-sharing services.

De Castro said the suspect rented Ryan Bamba’s car, a Hyundai Accent with license plates MS-3227, on July 8.

Bamba told police that McShane failed to return his car.

Another complainant, Grab operator Jomar Pergis, 33, said the suspect introduced herself as Divina Aniciete and rented his Toyota Innova (ABL-4623) but she never returned it.

McShane admitted that she had pawned the vehicles to a casino financier after she lost in gambling.

The suspect was apprehended in an entrapment operation at the Casino Filipino at around 7:45 p.m.

Police said charges of car theft, falsification of documents, swindling and estafa would be filed against McShane.
