Newborn found in trash bin at NAIA

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A baby boy was found in a trash bin at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City yesterday.

According to janitress Maricel Guliman, a woman aged between 22 and 30 years old entered the toilet at the NAIA Terminal 1 at around 10:30 a.m.

“The woman looked scared as she came out of the toilet and washed her handkerchief in the sink,” Guliman said in Filipino.

Out of curiosity, the janitress said she inspected the toilet and found blood on the floor and the toilet bowl.

When she opened the trash can, Guliman said she found a baby boy in a black plastic bag.

She sought the help of a security guard, who in turn called the doctors and nurses on duty.

The doctors gave the baby first aid treatment before rushing him to a nearby hospital in Pasay.

Authorities said they would review the closed-circuit television cameras at the airport to identify the woman who abandoned the newborn.
