Drunk guard locks self in building
MANILA, Philippines - Police ordered a partial lockdown of a commercial building along EDSA in Quezon City yesterday morning after an armed and drunk security guard locked himself in.
Herminigildo Marsula, 33, reportedly locked himself in the security office of the Eton Centris compound after aiming his handgun at police officers at around 3 a.m.
He surrendered around five hours later after negotiations with authorities with the help of his 12-year-old son and other members of his family.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, Quezon City Police District director, said Marsula was drinking with a colleague when they got into a heated altercation.
Marsula allegedly punched a bystander, who reported the incident to the police. The suspect allegedly aimed his handgun at police officers before he went to the security office and barred the door.
A Rock Island 9mm pistol was recovered from the suspect, who faces charges of alarm and scandal, grave threats, physical injury and illegal possession of firearm.
