Bullet removed from Aussie journalist’s neck
MANILA, Philippines - The bullet in Australian journalist Adam Harvey’s neck has been removed.
Harvey, who was shot while covering the conflict in Marawi City, was flown to Manila yesterday to undergo surgery.
“Doc glanced at X-ray and said ‘M-16.’ They know their slugs here,” he said in a tweet, referring to his physician.
“What a legend – (Dr.) Emmanuel Ibay – spent an hour teasing bullet from my neck. It stopped 1cm from the carotid artery. ‘Home run’ if it hit,” he added as caption to a photo with his doctor after the surgery at the Makati Medical Center.
Harvey, Southeast Asia correspondent for Australian Broadcasting Corp., arrived in Marawi City on June 12 to cover the clashes between the military and members of the Maute terrorist group.
