Makati launches unified ID system
MANILA, Philippines - The Makati City government has launched a unified identification card (ID) for its 500,000 residents.
Some 1,000 “Makatizen” cards were distributed at city hall on Tuesday.
City government employees can use their Makatizen card to receive salaries and allowances.
The card also functions as an automated teller machine (ATM) card and is a valid government ID.
Residents can receive allowances, stipends and other cash benefits as well as pay fees and taxes with the Makatizen card.
Mayor Abigail Binay said the local government’s collaboration with Globe and its subsidiaries “takes us a step further to achieving our goal of empowering residents, including those in the marginalized sectors of society.”
