DPWH opens 2 lanes on Commonwealth Avenue

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) yesterday opened two additional lanes along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

The southbound segment of Commonwealth Avenue, from Zuzuarregui street to Vila Beatriz street, has been widened from five to seven lanes to decongest traffic in the area in anticipation of the school opening on June 5.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said the additional lanes would give relief to commuters and motorists who would be affected by the construction of the Metro Rail Transit-7.

Villar said the additional lanes covering 391 lineal meters were made possible through coordination among the National Housing Authority, Quezon City government and informal settler families previously occupying the road right-of-way.

“We have settled right-of-way claims of informal settler families so we were able to push through with road construction. Another lane will be added once the utility posts are relocated,” Villar said.
