MANILA, Philippines -  A police officer went on a shooting rampage, killing his wife and 14-year-old son at their house in Quezon City yesterday afternoon.

Police Officer 2 Roal Sabiniano, 38, assigned with the National Capital Region Police Office Public Safety Battalion at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig, emptied at least two magazines of his 9mm pistol, according to probers.

Neighbors said 38 shots rang out from the house of the Sabinianos along Uwak street in Barangay Commonwealth at around 1:15 p.m.

Sabiniano’s wife Mary Jane, 36, and son Aljon Dave were found lifeless in the living room. Their bodies were riddled with bullets, police said.

Two other children survived.

Sabiniano’s daughter, 16, managed to flee carrying her one-year-old sibling.

The policeman said they were having family problems. He refused to disclose further details to probers.

Initial investigation showed that Sabiniano took his service firearm and fired at his family, who were watching television.

Probers said the suspect reloaded his gun at least twice during the shooting.

Sabiniano stopped with only seven bullets left in the gun.

He claimed that he did not intend to kill his child, saying he was only aiming at his wife.

But police said the boy suffered several gunshots to the head.

Sabiniano surrendered to barangay officials and admitted that he killed his wife and son.

Sabiniano has been in the police service for 15 years.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City police.
