MMDA tows funeral vehicles in Cubao

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  Personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) towed a limousine and an ambulance of a funeral parlor in Cubao, Quezon City for illegal parking, an official said yesterday.

Bong Nebrija, MMDA supervising officer for operations, said the funeral parlor operators ignored repeated warnings by traffic enforcers not to park their vehicles along the sidewalk.

“We have no choice but to tow the funeral vehicles because these were obstructing traffic in the area,” Nebrija said.

On Tuesday, a car owned by actress and former Quezon City councilor Aiko Melendez was among the 20 vehicles towed by the MMDA for illegal parking.

Under the MMDA’s rules, owners of light vehicles that will be towed will be fined P1,500 for the first four kilometers from the site it was towed to the MMDA impounding area in Pasig, plus P200 for every succeeding kilometer.
