Jinggoy granted medical furlough for aching shoulder

MANILA, Philippines -  The Sandiganbayan has allowed former senator Jinggoy Estrada to leave his detention at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center at Camp Crame in Quezon City to undergo a medical checkup for his aching right shoulder.

The anti-graft court’s Fifth Division on Tuesday granted Estrada’s motion to undergo MRI and X-ray at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) in San Juan from 12 noon to 6 p.m. today.

In his motion, Estrada’s lawyers said he experienced extreme pain in his right shoulder last week.

In November 2014, Estrada was allowed to undergo therapy sessions at the CSMC after his private physician Tyrone Reyes diagnosed him with calcific tendonitis or frozen shoulder.

Estrada is accused of receiving P183 million in kickbacks by misallocating his Priority Development Assistance Fund from 2004 to 2012 to fake foundations linked to alleged pork barrel scam brains Janet Lim-Napoles.

Last month, the Sandiganbayan allowed Estrada to leave his detention to attend the 80th birthday celebration of his father, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.
