Alleged drug addict, 9, rescued

MANILA, Philippines - Police rescued a nine-year-old alleged drug dependent in Marikina City on Wednesday.

Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, director of the Eastern Police District, claimed that the boy’s mother let him sniff shabu.

Sapitula said the boy admitted that he was forced by his mother to take shabu each time he complained about having an empty stomach.

“The boy told investigators that he used shabu to relieve his hunger,” Sapitula said.

He ordered Senior Superintendent Lorenzo Holanday, city police chief, to get the statement of the boy in the presence of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) officials.

The boy was turned over to the DSWD, Sapitula said.

Police said residents in Barangay Concepcion Uno informed them that the boy had been using shabu.

“According to witnesses and informants, the boy joined his mother in sniffing shabu at their rented apartment,” Sapitula said.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Anjanette de Leon Ortile of the Marikina City Regional Trial Court Branch 156, policemen raided the apartment and arrested the boy’s mother.

Police said she yielded three sachets of shabu.

She allegedly peddled drugs to support her three children.

Police said the woman’s husband had been jailed for theft.

Sapitula directed Holanday to hunt down the mother’s source of shabu.

“The drug supplier should be the one to rot in jail,” Sapitula said.
