Boy drowns; call center agent killed in accident

CEBU, Philippines - A family outing turned tragic after a six-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a public pool in Little Marikina, Barangay Estaca in Compostela town Saturday evening.

Police identified the victim as Luke Ivan Carvajal, a resident of Casuntingan, Mandaue City.

Carvajal did not reach the hospital alive, according to Police Officer 1 Greggy Geca of Compostela Police Station.

Before Carvajal was found in the pool, Geca said his family and friends failed to notice that he went for a swim.

The lifeless body of Carvajal was seen by one of his family members at the bottom of the pool, added Geca.

Geca said the victim along with his family went to Compostela for a family outing when the tragic accident happened at 7:30 p.m.

“Wala’y nakabantay nga nalumos na diay ang bata. Wala’y laing tawo didto sila ra nga pamilya kay gi-exclusive man ni nila,” he said.

In a separate incident, a call center agent died while his back rider was injured after the Kawasaki Fury motorcycle they were riding hit the left side of a Ceres bus.

Police Officer 1 Arturo Ricahuerta identified the driver as Ivan Opoc, 20, a resident of Consolacion, Cebu, while his back rider was identified as Gwynne Flores, 20, of Pelaez St., Cebu City.

Opoc was reportedly driving in a zigzag manner and accidently hit the bus along the national highway in Barangay Liloan, Santander town Sunday afternoon. The bus was heading to Bato, Samboan from Cebu City.

Due to the impact, Opoc and Flores fell hard from the motorcycle.

 They were rushed to Oslob District Hospital but Opoc later died. Flores, on the other hand, was transferred to Perpetual Soccor Hospital in Cebu City.

The bus driver Willmard Drillon, 30, a resident fo Barangay Looc, Santander, is now detained at the Samboan station after he voluntarily surrendered to authorities. (FREEMAN)
