MANILA, Philippines – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has ordered the relief of a Quezon City policeman for allegedly beating up an elderly neighbor.
Police Officer 1 Leo Tupaz of the Quezon City Police District Station 10 was ordered transferred to the NCRPO Holding Administrative Unit by NCRPO chief Director Oscar Albayalde.
“We will not condone any wrongdoing by our men. We will not hesitate to dismiss him from the police service if he is proven guilty,” Albayalde said.
He said Tupaz would undergo summary dismissal proceedings if evidence warrants.
“If the victim violated the law, Tupaz should have brought him to the police station and file charges against him,” Albayalde said.
A video showing Tupaz punching the victim went viral on social media.
When the victim lay unconscious on the ground, Tupaz picked up a stone and threw it at the elderly man.
Not content, Tupaz got hold of another stone but before he could hurl it at the victim, a woman intervened and pacified him.
The video was uploaded on Facebook by a relative of the victim.
