MANILA, Philippines – Police have arrested a resort caretaker for allegedly killing his 70-year-old employer who refused to give him an advance salary of P500 in Valenzuela City.
Carlo Angeles was tagged in the death of Maximiano Diaz, owner of Buenas Diaz Resort, who was found lifeless at his house along Liwayway street in Barangay Marulas at past noon on Sunday.
Diaz’s family initially thought that the victim died of heart attack.
But police probers suspected foul play as Diaz bore injuries in the head and neck, according to assistant police chief for operation Superintendent Rey Medina.
Medina said Angeles broke down during questioning and owned up to the killing.
Angeles said he badly needed money so he asked Diaz if he could give him P500 advance salary.
When Diaz turned down the request, Angeles punched the victim.
Diaz fell and hit his head on the pavement, causing his death.
Police said they recovered from Angeles more than P40,000 in cash, which he stole from Diaz.
Angeles said it was not his intention to kill Diaz.
