Manila cops get P42.9 M in allowances
MANILA, Philippines - The Manila city government released Thursday P42.9 million to pay for the allowances of the 4,652 members of the Manila Police District (MPD).
In a simple ceremony at the city hall, Mayor Joseph Estrada handed the check – representing the peace and order allowance from May to August – to MPD director Senior Superintendent Joel Coronel.
Each police officer receives P2,500 allowance per month.
“Some city hall employees have been jealous of you. They are asking why I always attend to your needs first,” he told the police officers.
“But I would tell them: our policemen risk their lives everyday to keep us, all of you, secure and protected. We sleep peacefully at night because there are men like them who are ready to lay their lives to keep us away from danger,” Estrada added.
