MMDA renovates workers’ inn

MANILA, Philippines – The nine-year-old workers’ inn of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in Port Area, Manila will be partially closed for renovation beginning tomorrow.

The inn, popularly known as “Gwapotel,” will be open for business only from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until the renovation is complete, said MMDA general manager Tim Orbos.

He said the plumbing system, leaking roofs and the damaged ceilings will be repaired while worn-out vinyl tiles and broken windows will be replaced.?Orbos said the MMDA will also declog the inn’s drainage system.

The inn’s lighting fixtures will be fixed, the beds reupholstered and a thorough debugging and disinfection will be done, he added.

MMDA records show that the inn accommodated more than 400 guests per day last August.

It also showed that the government has generated an income of P1.4 million from January to June.
