Workers to get double pay today

MANILA, Philippines - Double pay awaits workers who will choose to report for work today.

Labor Undersecretary Joel Maglunsod said today is regular holiday and workers are entitled to receive double of their regular daily pay.

 “Under the rules, for work done during a regular holiday, the employee shall be paid 200 percent of his or her regular salary for the first eight hours,” Maglunsod noted.

For work done in excess of eight hours, Maglunsod said, a worker shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the employee’s hourly rate on the said date.

A worker who opted to report for work on his rest day shall be paid additional 30 percent on top of the 200 percent and another 30 percent for work done in excess of eight hours.

Even if an employee chooses not to work, Maglunsod said, the worker shall still be paid 100 percent of his regular daily pay.

Malacañang previously declared Aug. 29 as a regular holiday to allow the people to observe National Heroes Day.
