4 dead in Pasay, Las Piñas fires
MANILA, Philippines – Four persons, including two toddlers, died in two fires in Pasay and Las Piñas on Tuesday.
Richard Palmones’ daughters, aged two and one, died in the fire that razed their house and at least 19 others in Medican Compound in Barangay Talon 4, Las Piñas before dawn yesterday.
The girls were sleeping while their parents were away, arson investigators said.
The investigators, who pegged the property damage at P300,000, are looking into the possibility that a lit candle left unattended caused the fire.
The fire left around 40 families homeless. A woman was hospitalized for injuries she sustained when she jumped from an upper-story window of her house to escape the flames.
In Pasay, Nanette Espinosa and an unidentified man died in a fire that destroyed at least six houses along EDSA in Malibay Tuesday afternoon, Fire Officer 3 Bernard Bermejo said.
The fire, reportedly caused by a defective stove, broke out at around 3:30 p.m. and put under control an hour later.
Arson investigators estimated the property damage at P200,000.
