Manila to introduce barangay-based drug rehab
MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Manila is set to launch a “comprehensive and community-based” drug rehabilitation program in its 896 barangays due to the increasing number of drug users who have surrendered, Mayor Joseph Estrada said yesterday.
He said the “outpatient” program, dubbed “Sagip Buhay, Sagip Pangarap,” will complement the city’s anti-drug campaign after around 3,160 drug users and 595 pushers have surrendered.
He said the program will establish various modes of treatment and barangay personnel will be able to monitor the progress of the patients.
Barangay personnel will undergo seminars that will be handled by the Manila Anti-Drug Abuse Council and be supported by medical personnel.
