3 rob suspects slain in shootout

MANILA, Philippines – Three suspected robbers were killed in an encounter with police officers in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

Lita Madera sought help from police officers patrolling Barangay Balingasa, saying she was robbed by armed men who were riding an orange tricycle.

The police officers spotted the suspects and tried to accost them. The suspects shot at the lawmen and fled, triggering a running gun battle at around 3:30 a.m.

A .45 caliber pistol, a .38 caliber revolver, a fragmentation grenade and a sachet of shabu were recovered from the suspects, police said.
