SoKor fugitive found dead in NAIA restroom

MANILA, Philippines – A South Korean man, wanted for real estate fraud, was found dead in the restroom of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) Thursday night.

An Sang Kwan, 50, arrived at around 3:30 a.m. Thursday from Taipei but was denied entry into the country because he was on the Bureau of Immigration (BI) blacklist, said Ed Monreal, general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority.
An was reportedly held at the BI exclusion room under guard by airline security personnel. A team of South Korean police officers was supposed to escort him to Incheon.

An’s body was found in the restroom in a sitting position, with a bag strap tied around his neck and the other end of the strap tied to a bag hook on the cubicle door at around 7 p.m.

BI spokesperson Ma. Antonette Mangrobang, in a statement, said An has been in the bureau’s blacklist since March last year after the BI board of commissioners ordered his deportation for being an undesirable alien when he overstayed.

An was convicted of fraud and sentenced to serve three years by a Chuncheon District Court on Aug. 28, 2012 for duping his victims of $700,000 in a real estate scam.
