P1-M fine for buses that transport ‘flying voters’

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Bus operators who will be found to have used their vehicles to transport “flying voters” and for political purposes may be fined P1 million for operating outside their designated routes, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) warned yesterday.

Bus operators will also be charged with violating the Omnibus Election Code, LTFRB board member Ariel Inton said.

The LTFRB has accepted 302 applications for 660 buses nationwide as of yesterday morning, with operators asking for special permits to operate outside their designated routes.

Inton said the special permit is for buses to transport commuters who will be going home to their respective provinces.

The special permit is from May 7 to May 11.
