Couple hurt in fire

MANILA, Philippines – A couple suffered burns in a one-hour fire that hit a residential area in Mandaluyong City Monday.

Nilo Baldeo sustained first-degree burns on his body while his wife, Nilda, received third-degree burns while trying to put out the fire that hit their house, witnesses said.

Firefighters estimated the property damage at P1 million.

Officials said the fire started in a house on Tiaga Street in Barangay Plainview at around 9 p.m. Monday, spreading to at least five other houses.

Arson probers are eyeing faulty electrical wiring as the cause of the fire.
