MANILA, Philippines - A 76-year-old grandmother was killed in Caloocan City at dawn yesterday.

Lourdes Alicabte Tolores, a retired accountant, was found dead at her home on Talilong street, Barangay 31, Kaunlaran Village before 2 a.m.

Police probers said the victim’s arms were tied with a nylon cord and her face covered with a pillowcase.

Tolores suffered a wound in the head and contusions in her forearms, police said.

A hammer and a screwdriver were found beside the victim.

Investigators have yet to determine if robbery was the motive for the killing as the cabinet in Tolores’ room was forcibly opened.

The victim’s 17-year-old grandson claimed that he and his 13-year-old sibling went to the house of their grandmother at past 1 a.m. and were instructed to buy a sack, according to Chief Inspector Ilustre Mendoza, Caloocan police chief investigator.

When they returned later, they found their grandmother lifeless.

Police said Tolores could have been killed by a family member since there was no signs of forcible entry into the house.
