Balikbayan collapses, dies at NAIA

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A balikbayan collapsed and died after arriving at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 from Guam on Thursday.

Eligio Garcia, 70, collapsed while waiting for his luggage to come out from the conveyor, airport police officers Ric Ongtawc and Elmer Langit said.

The two said they were on patrol when they chanced upon Garcia lying on the floor.

Langit immediately informed doctors and nurses at the airport clinic. They tried but failed to revive Medina.

Some passengers told investigators that Garcia could have died of heat stroke.

The airport’s medical team took Garcia to the San Juan de Dios Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Garcia’s luggage was claimed by his relatives.
